Brian Eno Calls On Support to Get Together for Palestine Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The effort seeks to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Possibility for Support and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.
“It has a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded following a major charity concert held in the autumn. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the performance was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of musicians appearing on Lullaby features a group of well-known figures from the scene. All were part of the September show, which managed to collect a considerable total for relief efforts.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a trio of talented individuals. The song features a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The organizers behind the campaign have clarified that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a spokesperson explained. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the territory was described as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of property said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a couple of million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and showing that another narrative exists.”
The track is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
