Los Angeles Dodgers Survive in Canada to Force Winner-Take-All Game 7 in World Series

The World Series is going to a final seventh game following the Dodgers kept their repeat hopes alive on Friday with a 3–1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 6.

The defending champions halted Toronto’s ninth-inning rally with a dramatic game-ending double play, stunning a home crowd that had arrived prepared to celebrate the team's first title in 32 years.

Sixth Game Summary

The Dodgers generated all of their scoring in the third frame. With two outs, Ohtani was intentionally walked before Smith hit a two-bagger to left to score Edman. Freeman drew a walk to load the bases, and Betts came through with a two-run single to the opposite field, giving the Dodgers a 3–0 lead.

Betts’ hit broke a postseason slump and revived the title holders' aspirations of being the first repeat championship victors since the Yankees won three consecutive from 1998 through 2000.

Mound Duel

Gausman had been nearly unhittable to that point, striking out half a dozen of the first seven Dodgers he faced. He struck out 8 through three innings, matching a World Series record, but the third-frame rally proved decisive. The Toronto ace finished with 8 Ks over six frames, allowing three earned runs on three hits and two free passes.

Yamamoto, in contrast, was solid again under stress. The 27-year-old right-hander outpitched Gausman for the second time in a seven days, giving up a single run on five base hits over six innings with six strikeouts. He improved to four wins and one loss this postseason with a 1.56 ERA.

The lone score against him came on George Springer two-out base hit in the third inning, driving in Barger, who had doubled previously in the frame. That single offered a brief spark in his return to the lineup after missing two games with an side strain.

Relief Heroics

After that, the Dodgers’ bullpen carried the load. Rookie Wrobleski escaped a tight spot in the seventh, and another rookie Rōki Sasaki worked into the ninth inning before plunking Alejandro Kirk to open the inning. Barger then hit a double that became wedged under the left-center-field fence, forcing runners to stay at second and third.

Glasnow, the Dodgers' third game starter, came on in relief and got a pop fly before Andrés Giménez lined to left field. Hernández caught the ball and fired to second to double off Barger, sealing the win and giving the pitcher his first-ever successful save.

Looking Ahead: Game 7

The best-of-seven now boils down to one game. Max Scherzer will take the mound for the Blue Jays, making him the sole active hurler to pitch in multiple World Series Game 7s after accomplishing that in the 2019 season with the Nationals. The 40-year-old inked a single-season contract to pursue another championship and has been a outspoken presence throughout this playoff run.

The Los Angeles squad, looking to become baseball’s first back-to-back champions in almost 25 years, are expected to rely on Shohei Ohtani for a short outing.
